You Sleep, i’ll handle the night shift
I take over while you sleep, giving your baby expert care and giving you a full night’s rest without the guilt.
and get peace of mind knowing someone experienced is taking the night shift. While you rest, I’m feeding, changing, soothing, and supporting healthy sleep habits that last. You’ll wake up to a calm, well-rested baby, clean bottles, and a fresh start to your day. You’ll finally get more than two hours in a row, feel like a human again, and know that rest is possible, even in the newborn stage.
A Newborn Care Specialist (NCS) is a trained professional who provides expert care for newborns during the earliest weeks and months of life, most often working overnight so parents can get the rest they need. Some families refer to us as a “night nanny” or even a “baby nurse,” though it’s important to note that I am not a registered nurse.
Think of a Newborn Care Specialist as similar to a postpartum doula, but with a dedicated focus on your baby. While doulas often support the entire family, my specialty lies in infant care, and more specifically, sleep. My role includes feeding support, soothing techniques, newborn care, and most importantly, sleep education. I help get babies sleeping through the night, or close to it, while also educating and empowering parents throughout the process.
My goal is always to work myself out of a job. By the time our work together ends, I want you to feel confident, supported, and rested, with a baby who sleeps well and parents who feel equipped to continue the progress we’ve made together.

“We hired Lauren for a total of 10 weeks. She came 4 nights a week for the first two weeks, then 3 nights a week for the remaining 8 weeks. I had a c-section, and having her there so I could sleep through the night and heal made all the difference. I had friends who also had c-sections around the same time who couldn’t believe how fast I had recovered. I not only healed extremely fast, I lost 25 pounds in 6 weeks. The extra sleep helped my mental and physical health, and I still had many nights that I spent with my newborn so I didn’t feel like I was missing out on that special bonding time. Lauren always showed up on time, and our baby started sleeping longer stretches (7 or 8 hours) by 8 weeks old. She gave us tips and advice after each night, and helped us get into a better routine. She made great suggestions on everything from swaddling to feeding to sleeping. I felt like I was able to be a better wife to my husband, and a more present parent to my baby during the day, thanks to the extra help and sleep.”

"Lauren is life changing! We've been blessed to work with her for over two years now. After she helped us with our first born, we made sure to book her as soon as we found out we were pregnant with our twin boys.
Not only were we able to get sound sleep, she was instrumental in helping us navigate being new parents and new parents of twins. She’s provided the techniques and tools to get our babies to sleep, helped with their reflux issues, bowel movement problems, breastfeeding, formula, etc. She’s well versed in all things baby.
Being able to sleep soundly after being in the hospital for 5 days was the best decision we ever made! We are so very grateful for Lauren’s support.”

“Lauren was an absolute life saver when I had my second baby. She had such bad colic and nothing my husband or I did seemed to help her settle at night. Lauren came highly recommended by several friends so we decided to reach out. My baby loved her immediately and she had such a calm, confident energy about her. She was able to get her to sleep at night when I couldn’t and give me a break I so desperately needed in those early months. We started using her every time she was available and we’re so grateful she was part of our lives. Even my 6 year old loved when she would come and help as she was wonderful with her too. I highly recommend Lauren - she truly is a baby whisperer!“

I let the family decide, but generally 10pm-6am. I will work up to 10 hours. I also do not work later than 11 pm or leave earlier than 5 am.

Sometimes! Babies come on their own schedule, and because I book families back-to-back, flexibility can be limited. If you have a scheduled induction or C-section, there’s a good chance I can be there the night you arrive home. If you're planning to deliver naturally, I typically recommend booking my first night for 5–7 days after your due date to allow for some wiggle room and avoid scheduling conflicts. If it’s important to have me there the night you come home, and your delivery date is uncertain, I can reserve those early nights just for you. However, since I’ll be turning down other work and holding those nights exclusively, they’ll be billed as full 8-hour shifts at my standard hourly rate, regardless of whether baby arrives that day.

Overnight support can be incredibly helpful even if you’re exclusively breastfeeding. I’ll keep your baby with me in the nursery or separate space so you’re not disturbed by every grunt or wiggle. When it’s time for a feeding, I’ll bring your baby to you and either assist with latching or give you space and wait in the other room. Once feeding is complete, I’ll handle diapering, re-swaddling, and settling your baby back to sleep so you can return to bed right away. Most breastfeeding parents are only awake 15–20 minutes every few hours and can still get a solid 2.5–3 hours of rest between feeds. If you’d like to combo feed, with me giving 1–2 bottle feeds overnight and you breastfeeding for one, we’ll come up with a schedule that helps optimize your rest. Prefer to pump while I feed? I’ll make sure pump parts are clean and ready, and I’ll collect and store the milk for you so you don’t even have to get out of bed. The goal is to keep you as rested and supported as possible while still meeting your breastfeeding goals.

As a sleep specialist, and someone passionate about my own rest, I don’t take on any daytime work. This allows me to prioritize my own sleep(7-8 hours) and ensures I arrive at your home well-rested, focused, and ready for the night ahead. During my overnight shifts, I’m typically awake and engaged, keeping myself busy with quiet activities like reading, working on my laptop, or watching a show with one headphone. After working exclusively overnight for the past seven years, I’m basically nocturnal! It's likely I’ll naturally stay awake all night. That said, if your baby is sleeping soundly and all care tasks are complete, I may briefly rest my eyes, usually around 4–5 AM, if time allows. If a family requires me to stay fully awake for the entire shift without the option to rest, an additional fee will be added to the hourly rate.

I only work nights for in-home care.

Possibly! I occasionally have gaps in my schedule and may be able to offer a night here or there. However, consistent overnight support is unlikely to be available on short notice, as most families book me in advance for multi-week contracts. It never hurts to ask, if I have an opening, I’m happy to help however I can.
-
As early as you can! Some families reach out as soon as they find out they’re expecting to secure care in advance. I do recommend waiting until after your first ultrasound to finalize booking, but spots fill quickly, especially since most families book me for 12–16 weeks at a time. The earlier you reach out, the more likely I’ll have availability for your preferred dates.

It really varies! I’ve supported families as frequently as six nights a week for a full year, and as occasionally as once a week. That said, to take full advantage of everything I offer, I typically recommend booking 12–16 weeks of overnight care. By that point, assuming baby is full term, we’ll likely have worked through key milestones like independent sleep, night weaning, and swaddle transition. Families who book this length of support often find their baby is sleeping through the night by the end of our time together and doesn’t require formal sleep training down the road.
